FEE EVADERS SKATING ON THIN ICE, WARNS TV LICENSING

Press Release

As the finalists from Dancing on Ice prepare for this weekend's skate-off, TV Licensing is warning viewers that they are skating on thin ice if they watch TV without a licence.

As tension mounts this week for Chris and Frankie, Suzanne and Matt and Zaraah and Fred, TV Licensing's enquiry officers will be out visiting addresses where they suspect people are watching TV without a licence. TV Licensing has already caught nearly 70,000 evaders in the first two months of 2008, so any licence-dodging ice-skating fanatics should be prepared to take a Greg Rusedski-style tumble. Anyone caught watching TV illegally risks prosecution, a trip to court and a fine of up to £1,000.

Joanna Pearce, TV Licensing spokesperson, said:

"If you should get a knock on the door from TV Licensing this week because your home is unlicensed, you're likely to be watching this Sunday's final in a very frosty atmosphere.

"Our database of 29 million addresses tells us exactly which properties are unlicensed, so, if you think you can get away with watching telly illegally, you may be heading for a fall. And seeing as the licence dodgers we catch face prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000, it's likely to be a painful landing."
